Wānaka Primary School

Parent Teacher Association

The Wānaka Primary PTA brings parents and caregivers together to support our students, strengthen our school community, and build a genuine partnership between home and school. We're also a welcoming way to meet other families and to get involved in what our children are doing, both inside and outside the classroom.

What we do

Fundraising — We raise funds to provide extra resources, facilities, and opportunities for our students. Our signature fundraisers include Friday Night Lights, the Wānaka Trail Ride, and the annual student art calendar.

Community and social events — We host gatherings throughout the year to bring our school whānau together, including the Hot Cross Bun morning tea, Mother’s Day movie night, Father’s Day breakfast, and Friday Night Lights.

Connection and communication — We help keep the lines open between families, teachers, school leadership, staff, and the Board of Trustees. You’ll find us at curriculum evenings, sports days, and welcome afternoon teas for new entrants and families joining the school.

2026 PTA Fundraising Goals

Throughout the year, the Wānaka Primary School PTA runs a vibrant mix of events that bring our community together while raising essential funds for the school. From the Welcome Picnic and Tribe Day Sausage Sizzle in Term 1, to our Mother’s Day Wellness Event and Ceilidh (in conjunction with MAC) in Term 2, the Father’s Day Breakfast in Term 3, and the much-loved Twilight Fair and School Disco in Term 4 — there’s something for everyone. Alongside these events, we run additional fundraisers throughout the year, including Second-hand Uniform Sales, Sausage Sizzles and Tribe T-shirt Sales.

Every dollar raised goes directly back into our school – supporting school resources, facilities, and opportunities that enrich our children’s learning. One tradition we’re especially proud of: each year, the PTA gifts every Year 6 leaver a scientific calculator, ready for their move to Intermediate and High School.

Where is our 2025 fundraising going?

2025 was a successful year of fundraising for the PTA and at the end of the year we were able to donate $30,000 to the school. This donation is to be spent in a timely way so that current school families can see the benefits. The PTA donation will be used to enhance playgrounds and playspaces for Years 1-6 in conjunction with the Wanaka Primary Futures Trust and Ministry of Education funds.

Play Spaces Project Timeline

  • A Team to oversee the playspaces project has been created – the committee includes: Rob Rush (Principal), Kath Nicholson (Teacher), Andrena Harvey (Teacher), Tom Syben (Board member), Anna Speak (Teacher), Charlotte Baldwin (Teacher)
  • Early 2026 there will be consultation with students, parents and staff
  • Playspaces to be built during late 2026/2027 school year
