Reporting to Parents
Wānaka Primary School has two formal, scheduled reporting periods per year to keep you informed about your child’s progress. Our reporting process involves three key components:
- Written reports
- Student-led conferences
- Parent-teacher meetings.
Written Reports
These reports provide an overview of your child’s progress in Reading, Writing, and Maths, along with a general comment covering their engagement across the rest of the curriculum. The components of our school’s written reports include:
Progress Descriptors: Emerging, Developing, Consolidating, Proficient, and Exceeding.
Teacher Narratives: Personalised comments describing your child’s progress, and next learning steps
Visual Progress Graphs: Clear visual representations generated directly through our Edge SMS portal showing Progress over time.
Standardised Assessment Results: – Where/how to view these. (will be shared at parent/teacher conferences.)
Student Attendance Data: Student attendance percentages,
Student-Led Conferences
We invite parents into their child’s classroom or pod to meet with their child. During these conferences, your child will share their current work and samples, discussing their learning journey. To help you engage in meaningful conversations, we’ll send you a script with prompts for deep questions about their learning. These conferences take place during the school day.
Teacher Meetings
All parents are invited to a 10-minute meeting with their child’s teacher to discuss their child’s learning. These meetings are held over two afternoons in Terms 1 and 3.

This meeting is part of our reporting process and will focus on how well your child has settled into school. You will not receive a written report as part of the school process, as your child has had less than 20 weeks at school.
Y1-6 children, please contact your teacher as below for an informal meeting after at least 5 weeks at school, to see how they are getting along. You will not receive a written report as part of the school process, as your child has had less than 20 weeks at school.
Informal Meetings
Our staff are always available to discuss your child’s learning needs outside of these formal reporting times. Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher directly to arrange a suitable meeting time.
